Alexandros
Alexandros was a 1st century BCE Greek herbalist who lived in the Paraitonion mountains of Egypt. Many of Alexandros' patrons were individuals who had ties to corrupt officials in the court of Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII and the Phylakitai in Alexandria. This enabled Alexandros to accumulate a large portion of wealth, which he stored in his villa of Kalliergeia in the mountains.[1]
One of his patrons, an Alexandrian named Heliodoros, eventually discovered Alexandros' patronage of said individuals and thus renounced further business ties with him. In his letter to the healer, Heliodoros condemned Alexandros' actions and wished upon his downfall. Sure enough, by 47 BCE, Alexandros' villa was overrun by a band of bandits who made it their hideout.[1]
