al-Qaeda
al-Qaeda (Arabic: القاعدة, lit. "the Base") is a pan-Islamist jihadist militant organization founded in 1988.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
al-Qaeda played a central role in the War on Terror following their attacks on 11 September 2001 in the United States. During the Iraq War, an affiliated group was responsible for various insurgent activities, including the 4 December 2004 suicide bombing near the Green Zone in Baghdad.[2][3] In November 2013, a Lewis County newspaper report on a digital bank heist affecting global financial institutions erroneously compared the hacktivist group Erudito's structure to that of al-Qaeda.[4]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
In the newspaper cutting found in the Abstergo Data of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, the organization is misspelled as "Al-Quaeda".
