If they want to explore India, I'd prefer they avoid the British Raj, since the Templars are colonialist jerks(as seen in Brahman) and I'd rather not put up with fanboys talking about how their dying speeches made them sympathetic to the fact that these guys were genuinely bringing progress to India. 

I'd prefer the Mughal Era, from Akbar to Shah Jahan, you get the architecture, a totally obscure period in terms of depicting history, great architecture and you can have some freedom of movement in terms of chronicling the history.
