Well, it makes a lot of sense- a lot more sense than a direct bloodline, at least. I'm with McDevitt on this. Narratively speaking, a convergence of bloodlines puts Des on a lil' pedestal, and makes him a truly exceptional character, albeit a character missing a fair amount of personality due to a lack of focus at present. Just because Ezio is trying to find out about Altaïr doesn't make Altaïr his ancestor. In fact, Ezio never says he's his ancestor, only that he was a legendary Assassin. Anybody who's anybody would want to find out about the Grand Master Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, especially if he hid something in Masyaf.
