It wouldn't work at all even with your explaining away the killings as the Templars framing him. Jack the Ripper is one of history's most notorious serial killers and as a result has 100 years worth of stigma as a sadistic evil bastard hanging over him. Ubisoft isn't going to wipe that all away, come up with some explanation about how he didn't really brutally murder 5 women and cast him as the protagonist. It's like making a game with Ted Bundy as the hero trying to clear his name for the crimes he didn't commit. Not going to happen.
