I think skipping 2016 is a bad idea since Syndicate's Modern Day story just revealed Juno is using the Templars to give herself a new body and now people want a game that make us wait for a year to find out what she's planning with her new body. Gramática himself state the Phoenix Project just got accelerated big time I don't think they plan to sit on that for a year. They the writers just said they plan to revealed the Modern Day Story one at a time. Unity a little, Syndicate a lot more than Unity, and the third one might have a lot of Modern Day Story Portion. 2014-2016 Assassin's Creed game might be itself already a Revolution Trilogy game and the third game might be another Revolution game.
