Zora Neale Hurston (7 January 1891 – 28 January 1960) was an influential African-American author and anthropologist known for her work during the Harlem Renaissance. She spent time in Haiti studying voodoo practices, which she documented in her writing, blending folklore and anthropology with storytelling.[1]

Legacy

In November 2013, Abstergo Entertainment employee Christopher Darby responded to the Chief Creative Officer Olivier Garneau in an email thread regarding new time periods for future Omega projects with some historical context for zombies, after the latter had shot down the idea for being outlandish. Darby cited Hurston's book on her experience in Haiti witnessing and participating in voodoo practices as a possible way to present zombies in a more realistic and authentic manner to audiences.[2]
