Zhang Jieran

From the Assassin's Creed Wiki
Revision as of 00:37, 14 March 2022 by imported>Sol Pacificus (For the first time, I decided to write a basic article as a start without making it "perfect" with all the complete info yet. / Note: Like An Qingzong, Zhang Jieran could have died in early 756. I think the author simplified for readers by equating Tianbao Year 14 to 755, but I believe the last month of Tianbao Year 14 should have corresponded to 756. Will double-check later.)

Zhang Jieran (張介然; died 756) was the Defence Officer (防禦使) of Chenliu Commandery for the Tang during the An Lushan Rebellion.[1] In that capacity, he was the chief official and military commander of its defence garrison.[2] Unable to withstand the inexorable onslaught of Lushan and his elite Yeluohe forces, Jieran surrendered along with his troops, and they were all taken to Lushan's camp as prisoners of war. To his misfortune, Lushan received news of his eldest son's execution at Chang'an on the same day. Driven into a frenzy by his grief, Lushan took his anger out on Jieran by executing him on the spot before subsequently doing the same to his men.[1]
