Xingqing, known in modern times as Yinchuan, is the capital of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of China. Under the name Xingqing, it was the capital city of the Western Xia, a Sinicized empire founded by the Tanguts.

History

In 1227, as part of his conquest of Xia, Genghis Khan of the Mongol Empire besieged the city with his army. Around the time that the city fell to his forces, he learned of the presence of nearby Assassins seeking his death. Though he tried to escape his base on horseback, it was to no avail as he was shot down by the Mongolian Assassin Qulan Gal and the Levantine Assassin Darim Ibn-La'Ahad.[1]

Trivia

  • In Assassin's Creed: The Secret Crusade, "Xingqing" is misspelled as "Xingging" and incorrectly described as a city near "Xia Province". In reality, Xingqing was the capital of the Xia Empire, a state independent of China.
