A warg is a member of a race of monstrous wolves in Norse mythology.

Etymology

Warg is derived from the Norse noa-name vargr meaning "outlaw, destroyer or stranger" for the Norse word ulfr meaning "wolf".

Mythology

In Norse mythology wargs play an important role in Ragnarök with Skol and Hati eating the Sun and Moon while Fenrir kills Odin and is in turn killed by Víðarr. Other wargs are seen as mounts such as when Hyrrokin arrives to Baldr’s funeral.

Legacy

Some members of the Isu race such as Fenrir were remembered as wargs.

During the late 800s the shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir, due to her status as the host to the consciousness of the Isu Odin and via the aid of herbal concoctions, was able to enter dream-like visions influenced both by Odin’s genetic memory and her experiences and preconceived notions of Norse mythology where she interacted with wargs such as Fenrir and the creations of Hel such as Bálulfr.

In the early 21st century, Assassin Layla Hassan used her Animus to modify the simulation of Eivor’s memories, turning her mount into a number of different wargs.
