Vaticano District
The Vaticano District (English: Vatican District) was one of the four districts of Rome, on the west bank of the Tiber River and the location of some of Rome's greatest landmarks, such as the Basilica di San Pietro, the Capella Sistina, and the Castel Sant'Angelo.
History
On the 28th of December 1499, Pope Alexander VI gave mass in the Sistine Chapel, until he was attacked by the Assassin Ezio Auditore. While the Pope survived the attack, after Ezio's brief encounter with Minerva, he and his uncle fled towards the Tiber River.[1]
Later on, in June 1501, Ezio broke into the Castel Sant'Angelo and freed Caterina Sforza, who was being held captive there after the events of the siege on Monteriggioni. The Assassin returned again in August 1503, when he stole the Apple of Eden from St Peter's Square and escaped.[2]
Trivia
- The Vaticano District does not include any shops or landmarks that can be renovated. It does, however, contain two Doctors, two pigeon coops, and a Lair of Romulus. No Tunnels reach this district: it can only be accessed by crossing the Tiber at the Centro district.[2]
- In terms of area, this is the smallest of all districts in Italy.[2]
- On crossing the border that separates the Vaticano district from the Centro district, the sky's color changes greatly. This is due to the fact that unlike the rest of Rome, this district never falls out of Borgia rule.[2]
- The Vatican is the only district to feature Cardinals and Papal Guards outside of memories.[2]
