Varin killed by Kjotve

Varin (died 860s) was the husband of Rosta and father of Eivor.

History

At the age of nineteen, Varin and his lover Rosta stacked cairns on a high cliff near the fjord of their village. The two were later married and Rosta bore Varin a child, Eivor. Their happiness did not last as nine years later, Kjotve the Cruel raided their village and killed Varin as he begged for mercy. Eivor survived the attack, being rescued by King Styrbjorn and later inherited their father's axe.
