Arrachion
Arrachion (died c. 564 BCE), alternatively Arrhichion of Phigalia, was a champion pankratiast who participated in the Olympic Games during the 6th century BCE.
Biography
Born in the fishing village of Phigaleia, Arrachion gained immortality by winning the 564 BCE Olympic Games posthumously, after he'd been illegally suffocated to death by his opponent during a bout. Arrachion's corpse was then pronounced the winner in the aftermath.[1]
Influence
During the Peloponnesian War, a group of bandits set up their camp within the ruins of a racecourse, naming it after Arrachion.[2]
