Theodosius I
Theodosius I (Latin: Flavius Theodosius Augustus; 347 – 395), born Flavius Theodosius, was Roman Emperor from 379 to his death.
Biography
In 390, Theodosius transported an Egyptian obelisk from Alexandria to Constantinople, where he placed it in the Hippodrome[1] on an ornately carved base that he had specially constructed to hold it. In 393, Theodosius repaired, improved and christened the Forum of Theodosius to commemorate his victories in battle and politics.[2] He also augmented the Harbor of Theodosius, causing it to become a major port for the trading of agricultural goods, and later a military outpost.[3]
