Taíno

The Taíno were seafaring indigenous peoples of the Bahamas, Greater Antilles and the northern Lesser Antilles. They were one of the Arawak peoples of the Americas.

The Lucayan branch of the Taíno were the first Amerindians encountered by the Europeans during Christoffa Corombo's journey to the New World in 1492. Under Spanish oppression, the Taíno eventually went extinct.

After the Assassins spread their influence to the New World in 1503, several members of the Taíno joined their ranks. Miguel Ramón Carlo de Lugo and Opia Apito were notable Taíno members of the Assassin Brotherhood.
