Taiyuan
Taiyuan (太原) is a city and the capital of the Chinese province of Shanxi. Since its founding, the city has served as a capital or provincial capital of many Chinese dynasties, dating back to the Warring States period.
In 756, the Hidden One Li E was captured and brought to the Mengshan Giant Buddha in the city, which served as a prison and where he was awaiting execution. Li E was able to free himself by killing two unsuspecting guards and using the keys to unlock his chains. He went to escape the prison and the city by performing a Leap of Faith and jumping into the river below.[1]
