The Stymphalian birds were flesh-eating birds with steel feathers plaguing the surroundings of the village of Stymphalos in Greek mythology.

According to the legends, when the birds' numbers grew, they became a menace not only to crops and livestock, but also to the humans in the area, until the hero Herakles defeated them as part of his twelve labours.

Following the birds' demolition, a memorial was set up on a mountaintop overlooking the village of Stymphalos in Arkadia.[1]
