Sneferu was the founder of the fourth Dynasty of Egypt. He was married to Hetepheres I and was the father to Khufu, his succeeding pharaoh.

His founding of the fourth dynasty is considered the beginning of a golden age for Egypt, and he built at least three pyramids. The first was the Meidum Pyramid, which collapsed, and was followed by the Bent Pyramid, which saw a change in design. His final pyramid, considered his masterpiece, was the Shining Pyramid, in which he was buried, though he died before the edifice was completed. He also hid three small replicas of the pyramids, which, when inserted in the pyramidion of the Shining Pyramid, revealed the location of a vault containing a pyramidion and a set of ancient scrolls.
