The snakes of Hermes

Snakes are elongated, legless, carnivorous reptiles found almost worldwide. A few species are venomous, and the word "snake" has become synonymous with slyness or deception.

History

Moses used the Staff of Eden to create the illusions of staves turning into snakes.[1]

Hermes Trismegistus held wrapped by two snakes. When he was encountered by Pythagoras and his pupil Kyros of Zarax, he plunged the staff into the ground and the snakes appeared to speak, informing Pythagoras he had earned possession of the staff.[2]

The Egyptian Assassin Amunet used venomous asps to kill Cleopatra.[3]
