Smoke bombs

The smoke bomb is a weapon in Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Using a powder "technology" coming from the Far East, the bomb releases a smoke screen for 8 seconds when thrown, to let Ezio flee his enemies or assassinate them quickly during those seconds. This item is disposable and must be purchased for 350 florins each. Players can carry a maximum of three smoke bombs at a time, which are stored in a non-upgradeable pouch. Since players will only be able to carry such a small amount, and cannot increase it, it is most recommended to only use them if needed. In addition, the smoke bomb is a useful way to get the trophies/achievements "No-Hitter," "Messer Sandman" and "Sweeper." The smoke bomb is a multiplayer tool in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood as well as an unlockable tool for Ezio's assassin apprentices.
Trivia
- In Assassin's Creed II, when buying smoke bombs it says "small smoke bomb pouch", even though you can't buy a bigger pouch suggesting that they originally had, or intended to have, an upgrade for the smoke bomb pouch.
- While looting brutes, there's a chance to obtain some smoke bombs.
- In Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, there seems to be a small spark of light when a smoke bomb is being deployed, unlike in Assassin's Creed II, where there is no spark.
- In Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, one of the BAM (Brotherhood Assist Move) maneuvers has the Assassin's throw numerous smoke bombs around Ezio before descending to aid him.
- In Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, the player may lock-on to a distant NPC before pressing the "throw bomb" button to throw the smoke bomb at the NPC. This is useful in chase missions, where enemy troops would line up across the street and try to stop you from catching your target, so you can stun them before you actually reach them; instead of running the risk of approaching them and pressing the "throw bomb" button a moment before they might slash you.
- The very common tactics with smoke bombs would be:
- When dealing with a large pack of enemies, use of smoke bomb would give you that a few seconds of advantage to make one-hit-kill on several to thin out the ranks, tip the balance more to your favour
- When you're chasing down target that has minions blocking your way, use smoke bombs just about hitting them would save you whatever time might lost (or at least minimize it) to deal with them if not using it.
- Both Papal Guards and the final boss, Cesare Borgia, are immune to the effects of smoke bombs and will not be stunned.
- In Assassin's Creed II memory, Cheaters Never Prosper, the three guards and Dante Moro are also immune to smoke bombs.
