Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi, known as Sandro Botticelli (c. 1445 – 7 May 1510) was an Italian painter during the early Renaissance.

Botticelli used the notable Florentine beauty Cristina Vespucci as a model for his paintings and worked under the patronage of Lorenzo de' Medici.[1] Following the fall of the House of Medici, Botticelli became a supporter of the radical friar Girolamo Savonarola.[2]
