Arashiyama (嵐山, Storm Mountain) is a district on the western outskirts of Kyoto, Japan. It also refers to the mountain across the Katsura River, which forms a backdrop to the district.[1] During the Sengoku period, Arashiyama had yet to be integrated into Kyoto, being considered its own sub-region of Yamashiro, and was not as densely populated.[2]

In 1582, the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke traveled to Arashiyama in search of a stolen letter written by Ise Sadaoki, so they could determine his and his brother Ise Sadatame's true intentions.[3] They also established a kakurega in the northern part of Arashiyama.[2]
