Roger Bacon (c. 1214 – June 1292) was an English philosopher and Franciscan friar who placed considerable emphasis on the study of nature through empirical methods. He is sometimes credited as one of the earliest European advocates of the modern scientific method. He is the author of Opus Majus.[1]

In 2013, researchers assigned to Abstergo Entertainment's Sample 17 Project were told to pay special heed to any mention of the Voynich manuscript, in particular its connection to Roger Bacon.[2]
