The resting area

The resting area was a place within the Sanctuary of Olympia in Elis, Greece, wherein the people participating and observing the Olympic Games could rest.

History[edit | edit source]

During the 428 BCE Olympics, the Spartan misthios Kassandra was directed there to look into the character of Kallipateira, a woman accused of dishonoring herself and the Games by the Priestess of Demeter.[1]

Within the resting area Kassandra learned that Kallipateira's husband had died a while back, that she met her pankratist son Peisirrhodos at the resting area regularly, that she was related to Diagoras of Rhodes, as well as that she had a secret admirer. With enough proof in hand, Kassandra was able to intervene at Kallipateira's punishment at the top of the Kronion.[1]
