The Pythian Games of ancient Greece were a series of sporting, as well as art and dance, contests held in celebration of and for Apollo in Delphi, Greece. The Theater of Delphi was the host of the artistic competitions, which included plays, poetry readings, and musical performances.[1]

After his victory at the chariot race during the Pythian Games of 478 or 474 BCE, Polyzelos had a statue made to celebrate it.[2]
