The Pont au Change is a bridge in Paris that connects the Île de la Cité to the northern bank of the Seine.

History

Replacing the Grand Pont bridge, the Pont au Change took its name from the goldsmiths and moneychangers whose stalls lined the bridge, essentially transforming it into a gold district. Due to the diversity of currencies and the high chances of having clipped coins which were no longer worth their original weight, moneychangers played an important part in society at the time.

During the French Revolution, a band of thugs enforced a toll for crossing the Pont au Change and the other bridges leading in and out of the Île de la Cité. In response, the Assassin Council of the Parisian Brotherhood had Arno Dorian eliminate the captains in charge of the tolls in order to end the extortion.
