The Palais de Justice (English: Palace of Justice) formerly the Palais de la Cité (English: Palace of the City) is located on the Boulevard du Palais in the Île de la Cité in central Paris, France. It is one of the oldest surviving buildings of Palais de la Cité.

History

Built in 1843 as an extension of the Palais de la Cité.

Between 1857 and 1868 the palace was reconstructed by architects Joseph-Louis Duc and Honoré Daumet.[1]

In November 1789, early in the French Revolution, all parlements were suspended, and they were formally abolished in September 1790.

During the French Revolution the palace was used as a courtroom and prison where Marie Antoinette and other prisoners were held and tried by the Revolutionary Tribunal.
