The pain grenade is a non-lethal deterrent device that upon activation emits a strong pulse of microwave energy that melts off the top layer of skin of anyone within the small radius where thrown. The Assassin Griffin had a few in his hideout, and would later tell the teenagers Owen Meyers and Javier Mondragón its uses.[1]

Description

With a size and appearance comparable to a slim can of soda, the pain grenade could be easily misidentified as something else.[1] Something Owen took advantage of when he made a dummmy grenade out of a soda can.[2]

History

In October 2016, while preparing for a rescue mission of a group of teenagers trapped in the Abstergo Industries' facility called The Aerie, Javier Mondragón grabbed a pain grenade after Griffin told him what it was and how to use it.[1] Together, Javier and his friend Owen infiltrated the Aerie. Javier would later use said grenade to incapacitate several Abstergo guards, while Owen would blind remaining using a laser array. They later reunited with Sebastian Monroe, but all three were soon captured by the defected-Instruments of the First Will member Isaiah and Abstergo forces.[3] After being confined with his reunited friend, Grace Collins, Owen made a makeshift dummy pain grenade as a bluff to escape past the guards. A plan which would ultimately fail as Cole the Abstergo guard saw through the ruse, though to aid their escape Cole took the dummy the grenade to explain to Isaiah how the escape.[2]
