Monteriggioni Assassins Guild
The Monteriggioni Assassins Guild was the primary Assassin Guild located in Renaissance Italy during the 14th and 15thth centuries.
History
Formation
Domenico Auditore was the first Assassin to come to Monteriggioni and completely rebuild the town, vastly improving its wealth, he built the Villa Auditore at its center. The Villa eventually became the base of operations for the Assassins, and the Auditore family became the ruling body of the Assassin Order.[1]
Renaissance
By 1454, the guild and town were kept in shape by Mario Auditore,[2] though by 1476 he had allowed them to become run-down. That same year, Mario's nephew, Ezio, moved into the town, and while travelling he collected money to restore the entire town to its former glory.[1]
Disbandment
In January 1500, after Ezio and Mario returned from Rome, the Borgia besieged the town, reducing most of it to rubble. The town became abandoned, and the guild was disbanded; instead, a new guild was formed in Rome, to directly attack the Templars in their own headquarters.[3] Years later, the Assassins returned to Monteriggioni, and were allowed to continue as its rulers after the Medici took possession of the town.[1]
