"Moina's blue eyes seem to penetrate the very depths of my soul. I should not be surprised; after all, she is known as 'the Seeress'."
William Robert Woodman.[src]

Moina Mathers (February 28, 1865 - July 25,1928), born as Mina Bergson, was the wife of Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers and the "Seeress" of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.

Relationship to Frater V.O.V.

Moina's title of the Seeress was quite appropriate. After the assassination of William Robert Woodman, she, alongside Aleister Crowley, was the only one who was able to see him in his supernatural form. Her husband, the Imperator of the order, did therefore frequently use her in order to communicate with him.

In 1901, the Seeress conducted a sexual ritual with the corpse of Woodman, hoping that this would enable her and her husband to control the disembodied being. However, this failed.

After the death of Samuel Liddel Mathers, Moina became leader of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.

Trivia

  • Frater V.O.V. compared Moina's voice to the one of Maria Amiel.
