Minninglow

Minninglow is a hill in Derbyshire, England which, during the Medieval period, was part of Snotinghamscire. Situated by the Trent River, the hill contained a Neolithic chambered tomb and two Bronze Age bowl barrows.

During the 9th century, two Anglo-Saxons explored the tombs beneath the hill in hopes of looting its treasures. After being disoriented by a "curse" phenomenon, one of the Saxons killed his partner and, after writing a note describing his experiences and actions, committed suicide. In the 870s, the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir explored the by tomb and came across the two explorers' corpses. After identifying and eliminating the source of the phenomenon, she then looted the tomb of its riches, including a tungsten ingot hidden in one of the chests.[1]
