The Mercato Vecchio was a major trading centre in the city of Florence.

History

It was the trading hub of the city and satified all the needs of the citizens. The Mercato was founded in Roman times, but only in 1030 comes the first mention of a market on the site. One of Savonarola's lieutenants could be found here.
