Melpomene
Melpomene is the muse of tragedy in Greek and Roman mythologies. As such, she is also considered to be one of the nine daughters of the Greek god Zeus.[1]
Influence
In 431 BCE, at their meeting within the Sanctuary of Kosmos in Phokis, one of the Cultists of Kosmos compared another's sad face to "the tragic mask of Melpomene".[2]
Around 47 BCE in Cyrene, Vesta considered the death of the actor Metrobius to be "a great service" to Melpomene, leaving a note attesting this.[3]
