In Greek mythology, Melikertes was a mortal prince of Boeotia, the son of Ino, who after his death and transfiguration was revered as the deity Palaemon.

According to the story, after Melikertes died, his mother jumped into the sea with his corpse. While Ino's remains were found by Megarians, Melikertes' was found by Sisyphos, the founder of Korinth. Sisyphos buried the prince's body, and established both a cult as well as the Isthmian Games in honor of Melikertes.[1]

By the time of the Peloponnesian War, an altar still stood on the shore north of Port of Kechries in Korinthia, and people worshipped there.[2]
