Maximilien François Marie Isidore Robespierre (6 May 1758 – 28 July 1794) was a French lawyer, politician and member of the Templar Order.[1] He was notable for starting the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution,[2] and abolishing slavery in France.[3]
During the Terror, Robespierre was instrumental in the trials ands executions of several leading figures, including King Louis XVI; his wife, Queen Marie Antoinette; Georges Danton, a fellow lawyer; and the Honoré Gabriel Riqueti, comte de Mirabeau, a famed orator in the Revolution, among countless other nobles, royals, and fellow politicians that the revolutionaries considered to be traitors.
