Massa Marittima is a town in southern Tuscany, Italy.

During the Borgia Papacy, the town had a dispute with the Church over possession of its invaluable alum mine, leading to the Pope excommunicating everyone there.

The Assassins led by Francesco Vecellio came to Massa Marittima, suspecting Cesare Borgia would try to seize the town. When Cesare's mercenaries came, Cipriano Enu led his bowmen in an ambush, and Tessa Varzi finished off the survivors.

The Assassins buried Cesare's far from the road, ensuring the Borgia would never receive a report or gain access to the mine. The grateful townsfolk rewarded the Assassins with ore, and negotiations began for a long-term supply deal.
