Marie Skłodowska Curie (7 November 1867 – 4 July 1934), known simply as Marie Curie, was a Polish and naturalized-French physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity.

For her contributions to the radioactivity field which led to advances in medical treatment and chemistry, Marie won a Nobel Prize in Chemistry. She was also known for discovering Polonium, a chemical element which was later used as a lethal poison for assassination attempts in modern times. Marie later died in 1934 due to long-term exposure to radiation.
