Malis, known in modern times as Thermopylae, is a place in Greece where a narrow coastal passage existed in antiquity. It was the site where King Leonidas of Sparta led his army of 300 Spartans against the armies of King Xerxes I of Persia.

Once a highly contested area, it was mostly inhabited by wild animals and hunters during the Peloponnesian War.
