Maia was an Elean child living in the streets of Sanctuary of Olympia in Elis, Greece.

During the 428 BCE Olympic Games Maia ran a scam with other street kids and a man named Alopex: while Alopex distracted their victim, the children stole their drachmae. This lasted until they robbed the Spartan misthios Kassandra. Though Maia tried to outrun Kassandra, the misthios caught up with the girl and demanded her money back. After hearing that 'the Captain' would hurt Maia if she didn't steal for him, Kassandra's interest was piqued, especially since Maia reminded her of her friend Phoibe.[1]

Kassandra tracked the Captain to the Endymion Camp in the Psophis Foothills, south of the Sanctuary of Olympia. There she eavesdropped on a conversation between Alopex and the Captain, and then slew the Captain. She also freed the children the man had kept in the cages at the camp, and reclaimed the necklace of Maia's mother. Returning to the girl, she gave her the necklace, and told her that she had spared Alopex, delighting Maia.[1]
