Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Inca citadel located in southern Peru.

History

In 1536, Tuti Cusi, councilor to the Incan Emperor Manco Inca Yupanqui, sentenced Quila and Gonzalo Pardo to death, having a group of guards and his son, Ayar Acar, escort the pair to Machu Picchu to be sacrificed in the name of the Sapa Inca. Having pieced together the plot to kill the emperor while on the journey there, upon arrival, Quila pleaded with Ayar, revealing it was Tuti Cusi behind it.[1] Ayar dealt with the other guards and freed Quila and Gonzalo before taking a horse to return to Cusco in time to stop the assassination.[2]

Legacy

One of the cryptic messages left behind by Clay Kaczmarek before his suicide in 2012 depicts a mountain valley that looks remarkably similar to Machu Picchu.[3]
