Louis (page)
Louis was a page during the latter part of the Hundred Years' War.
Biography
Louis joined the retinue of Jeanne d'Arc on 21 April 1429 as she left the city of Tours, along with fellow page Raymond, steward Jean d'Aulon and heralds Ambleville and Guyenne.[1]
On 30 April 1429, Louis accompannied Jeanne to one of the gates of Orléans, as she met with the English to order them to return her herald unharmed.[2] The next day, as Jeanne woke up shouting about her Voices telling her that French blood was being spilled, Gabriel Laxart sent Louis to tell the squires to ready their horses. Louis did so and also helped Gabriel into his armor and handed Jeanne her standard before they left.[3] On 5 May 1429, Louis handed Jeanne some red thread, which she then used to tie a letter to an arrow, and had it shot for William Glasdale to read.[4]
