Liquid Gold is a Templar Lair memory in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

Description

In this mission, Ezio discovers that the Templars are searching for a secret treasure in Tivoli and he must attempt to stop them.

The Papal guard that is in charge of the excavation of the area also uses his workers to attempt and kill Ezio, but Ezio uses a crane to destroy the platform that he is standing on.

In this memory a chase sequence takes place in which Ezio chases down a Papal guard and try to kill him.

Dialogue

Ezio arrives at the work site and proceeds forward a bit, where he hears the workers voicing their unrest on the upper crane platform to their supervising Papal Guard on the balcony.

  • Worker: How long do you expect us to work with such petty wages?
  • Papal Guard: When the aqueduct is restored, we use it to take the treasure out of the quarry. Then, you will be paid well for your efforts.
  • Worker: Enough with the same lies! I say we get back what belongs to us! Who's with me?!

The Papal Guard kills the objecting worker with his pistol. The crowd falls silent.

  • Papal Guard: This is what happens to rebels. Let it serve as a warning to all of you. Now get back to work!

The Papal Guard turns around to look at some pieces of paper. The workers go back to work. Ezio then proceeds up some lower platforms before coming across the first waterwheel.

  • Ezio: I wonder what that mechanism does. Maybe I can shoot it from here?

Ezio shoots the mechanism, which spins it, causing the water trough to divert its path. The diverted water spins the first waterwheel, which causes a winch to lift a block of stone up at the perfect height to allow Ezio to proceed to the next platform.

  • Ezio: Bene. (Good.) Now, I hope it will not snap under my weight.

Ezio uses the stone block and some scaffolding to proceed to the next work platform, where a small avalanche of stones causes a ladder to fall down, connecting his starting point to where he is now.

  • Ezio: That could help if I fall.

Ezio proceeds to the next work platform, where he sees another waterwheel. The trough leading to it has a mechanism that is across the quarry.

  • Ezio: Now...how to get water to this wheel? I must find another vantage point.

Ezio uses some scaffolding and a scrap of a previous trough to get to another work platform for a proper vantage point. He shoots the mechanism, causing the trough to fill with running water, though the trough doesn't lead to the waterwheel. Ezio notices another mechanism that will change the flow of water.

  • Ezio: That one is set. Now to align the other one. Seems I need to redirect the flow from the cistern.

Ezio shoots the second mechanism, flowing the water to the wheel. Another winch lifts another block of stone.

  • Ezio: Done.

Ezio uses the stone block and more scaffolding to proceed forward, where he sees a water gate next to a work platform. The water gate has boards that he is able to grab hold of, though it is far too low to allow him to proceed to the crane platform. Ezio also notices another waterwheel mechanism not too far off.

  • Ezio: Merda! (Shit!) Perhaps this device can help me get up?

Ezio jumps to the work platform and shoots the mechanism, diverting the water flow to a wheel, but the wheel has a brake on it and does not turn.

  • Ezio: There is a waterwheel back there, but this brake locks it in place.

Ezio pulls a nearby lever, releasing the brake. The waterwheel spins freely, causing the water gate to lift up to the perfect height to allow Ezio to climb to the upper platform.

  • Ezio: Done. I'm sure Leonardo would be impressed.

Ezio uses the water gate and a section of water trough to climb up to the crane platform. The Papal Guard turns around to inspect the workers from his balcony.

  • Papal Guard: What is wrong with you Italians?

The Papal Guard discovers Ezio.

  • Papal Guard: The Assassin! Protect me!
  • Ezio: Why not come down and fight, coward?
  • Papal Guard: (pulling out and displaying a sack of money) Twice this sum goes to the man who kills him!

Guards and workers alike, fueled by the reward of money, draw their weapons and get ready to attack Ezio.

  • Papal Guard: Money makes the world go round, eh, Assassin?

The guards and workers charge.

  • Papal Guard: You kill guards, but will you kill innocent workers?

Ezio hastily uses some scaffolding to position himself to shoot a mechanism, which causes the crane to lift a large stone block. Using the block, Ezio navigates to another platform with another mechanism.

  • Papal Guard: (noticing what Ezio is attempting to do) That machine is useless!

Ezio shoots the mechanism, diverting water to a wheel. Noticing that the wheel has a twin, Ezio goes back to the first mechanism.

  • Papal Guard: More of my men are on their way. Surrender now and I let you live.

Ezio shoots the first mechanism, diverting water to the other wheel. This activates the crane causing it to spin around with heavy block in tow.

  • Papal Guard: Shieza! (Shit!)

The block just misses the Papal Guard's balcony.

  • Papal Guard: Ha! You missed. (noticing that the crane is still spinning) Wait, stop! What have you done?!

The crane hits on its second pass, breaking apart the Papal Guard's balcony. The Papal Guard himself barely dodges the deadly blow. The shattered fragments of the balcony form a convenient ramp up to where the Papal Guard is.

  • Papal Guard: I have to get out of here!

The Papal Guard uses a lift to climb up the quarry wall. Ezio gives chase. The Papal Guard runs along the ruins of the aqueduct, breaking apart bridges, using lifts, and shooting with his pistol to try to hinder Ezio. Eventually, at the edge of the water flow, the Guard waits at the edge. As Ezio climbs up after him, he is greeted with a pistol in his face.

  • Papal Guard: Forget the treasure. I will be granted riches beyond belief when I bring Cesare your head!

The Papal Guard pulls the trigger, but the gun does not work.

  • Ezio: Perhaps I will bring him yours.
  • Papal Guard: (throwing the useless pistol at Ezio) Nein! Nein! Nein! (No! No! No!)

The guard flees into the nearby treasure cavern, with Ezio hotly on his tail. Eventually cornered at the door to the treasure room, the guard makes his final stand, though Ezio eventually kills him. His enemy defeated, Ezio pulls a lever, which opens the door, and claims the Templar treasure for his own. Ezio then opens the back door, proceeds through a short stretch of cave, and then performs a Leap of Faith into a cart of hay on its way back to Rome.

Outcome

Ezio kills the Templar overseeing the restoration of the aqueduct and takes the Templar treasure.

Trivia

  • To get full synchronization, Ezio must avoid killing more than 2 workers
  • The Papal Guard in this memory is the only German character in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
