Lindisfarne raid
The Lindisfarne raid was a Viking military expedition that occurred in a Northumbrian island off the northeastern coast of England. Although it was not the first Viking raid, nevertheless it was an important event in the history of the Middle Ages and marked the beginning of Norse expansion across Europe.
During the raid, an unidentified Viking raider fought against and defeated a Saxon warrior, whom he offered the chance to join his clan. However, the Saxon, overcome with grief, cried out that God had abandoned his people and that nothing remained but chaos. Pitying him, the Viking raider killed the Saxon without a second thought.[1] In 2014, the raid was relived by his modern day descendant Juhani Otso Berg.[1]
