"Legendary ship", also called "Alpha" or "Epic", is an Animus designation for certain ships generated during an Animus session. These ships are generally unique and the strongest in the simulation.

Animus Omega

When an Abstergo Entertainment research analyst relived the memories of Edward Kenway in late 2013, five Men O' War were designated as "Legendary ships": El Impoluto, La Dama Negra, HMS Fearless, HMS Prince, and the Royal Sovereign.

A year later, Abstergo Entertainment sequenced the memories of Alonzo Batilla, with another set of Men O' War being designated as "Legendary ships": HMS Devonshire, HMS Ormonde, HMS Pembroke, L'Alexandre, L'Amazone, Le Protée, the Princesa do Céu, the Red Ruin, the San Pedro, the Stalwart, the Triunfo, and the William Rex.

Helix Navigator

In 2014, another research analyst in the employ of Abstergo Entertainment relived the memories of Shay Cormac in order to scrub a virus that had been uploaded to the Helix. This session designated as legendary ships the Argonaut, the Cauldron, the Couronne, the Formidable, the Pilgrim, the Sceptre, and the Storm Fortress.

Animus HR-8.5

The simulation of Kassandra's memories relived by Layla Hassan in 2019 used slightly different terminology such as "Alpha" or "Epic" rather than "Legendary". While the scope of the session was much greater than previous sessions, the accuracy was lower due to DNA degradation relying on secondary source and extrapolation to fill the gaps. Both of these factors led to a greater number of ships receiving this designation.[Speculation?]
