Lateran Palace
The Palazzo Laterano, formally the Palazzo Apostolico Lateranense (English: Apostolic Palace of the Lateran), was an ancient palace of the Roman Empire and later, the main Papal residence for over a thousand years. By the early 1500s, the palace had fallen into disrepair. The Followers of Romulus used the palace to hide one of their scrolls, although the building itself was left unguarded.[1]
Database Entry
Originally a palace during the Roman Empire, the Laterano was the home of the Laterani family who served as administrators for many Roman emperors. Eventually Constantine himself took control of the building when in a final act of juvenile dominance over his rival, he married Maxentius's sister, Fausta, who possessed the deed at the time. I wonder if Maxentius got the message?
In the 4th century, the Laterno became the principal Papal residence, but lost favour after two fires in 1307 and 1361.[1]
Trivia
- The music played in this area is "Acre Underworld" from Assassin's Creed.[1]
- The Palazzo Laterano is one of the place to find an extremely rare trade item, the Shrunken Head.
- The Palazzo seems to be entered through the Cloaca Maxima, but the achievement/trophy states that you recieve the scroll from the Palazzo Laterano. This may imply that Ezio Auditore Da Firenze enters the ruins through the sewers.[1]
