La Rochelle is a port city on the west coast of France.

History

In the early 18th century, the merchants of La Rochelle imported exotic ingredients from the Caribbean to add character to their local cuisine, and Welsh pirate Edward Kenway was one of the city's exporters, shipping cocoa pods to the merchants.[1]
