Kjoptr
Kjoptr was a male Jötunn who lived in Svaladal, Svartálfaheimr.
Biography
Kjoptr used to live in Jötunheimr and was a witness when the Æsir lord Havi visited his realm, drank enough mead to kill a man, and defeated Suttungr in combat.[1] After some time, Kjoptr traveled to Svartalfheim and found a home in a lake north of Gnafandi Keep as a fish. Living in the lake, he guarded his watery community from fishermen by being a nuisance and hurting their prides. At one point, he tricked and convinced dwarven fisherman Batr into giving his belongings, especially his chest key.[2]
However, Kjoptr's persuasion caught the attention of both Batr's sister Meiri and then Havi, who happened to be passing by. When Havi agreed to help, he fished for Kjoptr and caught him. Once caught, Kjoptr revealed himself and explained his situation to Havi. After convincing Havi of his new home and giving him Batr's chest key, Kjoptr continued to live in his new home in peace.[2]
