John Julius Angerstein
John Julius Angerstein (1735 – 22 January 1823), was an English banker and art collector.
After Angerstein's death, King George IV encouraged the British Parliament to buy his residence and collections in order to create a national museum. Angerstein's art collection included works by Rembrandt and Rubens, and was displayed in his residence at Pall Mall, becoming the first National Gallery of England in 1824.[1]
