Isabelle Romée
Isabelle Romée (1377–1458) was the wife of Jacques d'Arc and mother to Pierre, Jean, and Jeanne d'Arc.
Biography
Known for being an independent woman who went on very dangerous pilgrimages,[1] Isabelle settled down with Jacques d'Arc, Domrémy's doyen.
In 1429, after their daughter Jeanne fled home, Isabelle and her husband received a letter from her. In it, she explained that she felt very guilty about leaving them without a word, but that she had to go and loved them dearly. Isabelle cried at the letter and the couple forgave their daughter.[1]
On 17 July 1429,[2] Isabelle and the d'Arc family attended Charles VII's coronation at Reims.[3]
Personality and traits
Isabelle was described by Gabriel Laxart as having a warm and friendly demeanor that contrasted with her husband's large and imposing presence, but he considered both of them "intelligent and big-hearted".[3]
