Iaten was one of Suttungr's Outriders, a secretive group of Jötnar spies and warriors, who invaded Svartálfaheimr during the warlord Surtr's invasion.

Biography

Iaten joined his leader Riekr to Svartalfheim and then traveled to the western part of Svaladal. He ordered his warriors to find any dwarfs to interrogate, but his company spilled too much information of Iaten's location among their prisoners, especially Kelby and Torborg. Both dwarfs were then rescued by the Æsir lord Havi, who was told of Iaten's base, which was south of Mjolnir Smida. At his rendezvous point, Iaten, who was morphed into his wolf form, talked with his warriors about their duties and the danger of being in the Ginnungagap, until they were attacked by Havi. Iaten and his company fought against Havi but he died as a result. From Iaten's personal effects, Havi recovered the Jotun Trousers.[1]
